When I weighed in at 236 pounds as of the new year, I already had some lifestyle changes in mind. On January 1 I took up temporary residence in Lake Tahoe with the intention of snowboarding myself into shape for three months solid. Indulging myself in the sport several days each week got the ball rolling toward my fitness goals, but I soon realized that I wouldn’t make it all the way to my goal just by playing on the mountain. I added a gym membership to the mix, and in combo with my outdoor lifestyle I was able to lose 12 pounds by the time I moved back to San Diego at the beginning of April.
At 224 pounds, I was still 39 pounds from my ideal weight. I was able to maintain at 224 for two months during a hectic stretch of work and traveling, but when that was through I was again faced with the challenge of scaling in at 185 pounds. I knew I would need to make new and even more demanding lifestyle changes to see any further progress, and this time they would all have to happen at once! This is where the real value of a define membership was proven. By June I had made all of the following commitments:
- Eat six instead of three meals per day while consuming 1500 fewer daily calories;
- Meet Anthony three times a week for Gravity training;
- Do my own cardio training three times per week;
- Join a Mastermind conference call, one hour per week for 10 weeks.
The last item on this list was the most crucial for me in making all these changes at the same time. Every excuse I’d ever made to myself in the past to “justify” my complacency toward my physical fitness, was addressed by Chris Snook, our Mastermind coach, and in the book we discussed, Think and Grow Rich. Committing to the conference call reflected my commitment in all the other areas of my fitness plan, and my mental capacity to envision my goal to the point where the physical lifestyle changes were made much easier. I kept all of my commitments listed above, and in three months saw myself drop 27 more pounds, knowing that if I failed to keep any one of the five promises I had made to myself that my progress would come to a halt. Now with my scale reading 197 pounds, and with an unprecedented level of muscle definition, I only have 12 more pounds to lose to reach my goal. This “all-in” approach got me here much faster than I anticipated, and I know I will be at 185 pounds before I know it... but with nine months left on the “hard-and-fast” list of commitments, my body will look infinitely greater than anything I could have imagined at the beginning of this year. In May of 2008 I will have been at or below my target weight of 185 pounds for well over half a year, and my muscle tone will shine with the energy I’ve into a year of Gravity training.
